Confirm your identity – an important obligation for Ukrainian citizens with a PESEL UKR number

Ukrainian citizens who received a PESEL number with UKR status without presenting a valid passport must confirm their identity at any municipal office by 31 August 2026. Failure to meet this obligation will result in the status being changed from UKR to NUE and the need to obtain a new legal basis for residence in Poland.

Ukrainian citizens who obtained a PESEL number with UKR status after 24 February 2022 without presenting a valid passport should remember an important obligation. By 31 August 2026, they must confirm their identity at any municipal office by presenting a valid travel document. Failure to meet this obligation will result in the status being changed from UKR to NUE, which will mean that a new legal basis for residence in Poland must be obtained.

It is advisable not to leave this formality until the last moment. Confirming your identity on time will allow you to retain your current status and the rights associated with it.
