An autumn quest in Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski. Exploring nature, discovering Poland and creating together
What can autumn’s natural treasures teach us, and which traditions are associated with this season in Poland? During workshops held on 14 October in Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski, young people explored nature, solved puzzles and practised their Polish. The autumn quest combined learning with teamwork, play and creating their own seasonal arrangements.
On 14 October 2026, workshops for young people took place in Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski under the theme “Autumn quest – exploring nature, discovering Poland and creating together!” The activities combined learning about Poland’s natural world and traditions with puzzles, Polish language practice and creative work.
Autumn and the seasonal changes in Poland’s natural world provided the starting point. Participants discovered interesting facts about trees and their fruit, identified autumn’s natural treasures and learnt their Polish names. Exploring nature together helped them connect new words with specific objects and phenomena they can observe in their surroundings.
Learning about Polish holidays and traditions
The autumn quest also offered an opportunity to talk about two holidays celebrated in Poland: All Saints’ Day and National Independence Day. The young people learnt about the symbols and traditions associated with them. This knowledge helps people better understand the customs of the country they live in and the events that form part of local community life.
Puzzles, new words and teamwork
Participants tackled picture puzzles, logic and maths problems, and crosswords. Each challenge encouraged careful thinking and problem-solving, while the language activities helped participants expand their vocabulary and reinforce words they already knew. Polish was part of the fun and became a tool for working together.
Teamwork was an important part of the session. Identifying the fruit of different trees, naming it in Polish and discovering autumn facts together created opportunities to exchange ideas and learn from one another. Finding the answer mattered, as did working towards it together.
Creating an autumn arrangement of your own
Finally, it was time to get creative. Everyone had the chance to use their imagination and make a small autumn arrangement of their own. This was an opportunity to develop their creativity and give their work a personal touch, turning it into their own symbol of this colourful season.
The session showed how much can be brought together around a single theme: knowledge of nature, an introduction to Polish culture, language learning and teamwork. Shared activities also encouraged conversation and helped build relationships. Thank you to all participants for getting involved and sharing your ideas!
