Japanese guests at the INTEURO Centre – calligraphy, Pokémon and an extraordinary meeting of children from different cultures

On 5 June 2026, the INTEURO Centre in Kielce welcomed special guests from Japan – led by Mitsumasa Hisada, a representative of Aichi Volunteer Center and Aichi Global Child Relief Center. The guests prepared a fantastic afternoon for Ukrainian and Polish children, full of joy, colours, Japanese culture, fun and genuine intercultural dialogue.

The room at the INTEURO Centre was literally bursting at the seams. Children, parents and guardians took part in the event with great interest. The meeting combined elements of traditional Japanese culture with the fairy-tale atmosphere familiar to the youngest participants from popular animations and games.

One of the main attractions of the meeting was the Japanese art of calligraphy – shodō, the traditional art of beautiful writing. The guests from Japan wrote the children’s names in an artistic form on special paper, so each participant could receive a unique, personal souvenir. For many children, it was their first such close encounter with Japanese culture.

The second part of the event was filled with extraordinary, humorous and magical performances inspired by the world of Pokémon. The gentlemen personally dressed up as characters well known to children from cartoons, creating an atmosphere full of laughter, surprise and shared fun. The children reacted enthusiastically to every scene, and the meeting quickly turned into a true celebration of children’s imagination.

The visit to Kielce was part of a wider journey by representatives of two Japanese organisations involved in supporting children, including refugee children from Ukraine. The guests represented Aichi Volunteer Center – a Japanese social organisation based in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture, which was formally established in 2011 after the Great East Japan Earthquake in the Tohoku region. For years, the organisation has coordinated volunteers in disaster-affected areas and has provided long-term financial support for orphaned children, including fundraising for their education until they graduate from high school.

The second organisation was Aichi Global Child Relief Center, through which Mitsumasa Hisada carries out international humanitarian activities. It was under the banner of this organisation that he initiated projects supporting Ukrainian refugee children staying in Poland. Today, the organisation also carries out activities in Lviv and across Ukraine, helping children affected by the war.

Mitsumasa Hisada is a Japanese social activist, long-time volunteer and former high school teacher from Nagoya. For nearly 30 years, he has been actively involved in helping people affected by natural disasters, including earthquakes in Japan, as well as by armed conflicts. Since mid-2022, he has been regularly visiting Poland to support Ukrainian children who fled the war. He pays particular attention to children who have lost loved ones, become orphaned or been forced to leave their homes.

The meeting at the INTEURO Centre was much more than just an afternoon of attractions for children. It was a beautiful example of solidarity, empathy and international cooperation. Polish, Ukrainian, Japanese and English could be heard in one room, yet despite cultural differences, everyone quickly found a common language – the language of smiles, kindness and openness.

For the children, it was an opportunity to play, discover elements of Japanese culture and experience something completely new. For adults, it was an important reminder that humanitarian aid can also have a warm, direct and deeply human dimension. Meetings like this show how important it is to create spaces where children with the experience of migration and war can feel safe, joyful and simply childlike.

We sincerely thank our guests from Japan for their great hearts, energy, creativity and presence in Kielce. It was a truly fascinating meeting of cultures, generations and languages – one of those events that will remain in the participants’ memories for a long time.

INTEUROセンターに日本からのお客様をお迎えしました ― 書道、ポケモン、そして多文化の子どもたちとの特別な出会い

2026年6月5日、キェルツェのINTEUROセンターに、日本から特別なお客様をお迎えしました。被災者応援愛知ボランティアセンターおよびAichi Global Child Relief Centerの代表である久田光政さんを中心とする皆様が、ウクライナとポーランドの子どもたちのために、すばらしい午後のひとときを準備してくださいました。喜び、色彩、日本文化、遊び、そして真の異文化対話に満ちた時間となりました。

INTEUROセンターの会場は、まさに満員となりました。子どもたち、保護者、付き添いの方々は、日本の伝統文化と、子どもたちに親しまれているアニメやゲームの世界が結びついたこのイベントに、大きな関心をもって参加しました。

イベントの大きな魅力の一つは、日本の書道、すなわち美しい文字を書く伝統芸術である書道でした。日本からのお客様は、子どもたちの名前を特別な紙に芸術的に書いてくださり、参加した一人ひとりが、自分だけの特別な記念品を受け取ることができました。多くの子どもたちにとって、日本文化にこれほど身近に触れるのは初めての経験でした。

イベントの後半では、ポケモンの世界に着想を得た、ユーモアと魔法にあふれる楽しい演出が行われました。お二人は、子どもたちがよく知るキャラクターに自ら扮し、笑いと驚き、そして一緒に楽しむ雰囲気をつくり出してくださいました。子どもたちは一つひとつの場面に大きな歓声で反応し、会場はすぐに子どもたちの想像力が輝く、本当のお祭りのような空間になりました。

キェルツェでの訪問は、子どもたち、とりわけウクライナからの避難民の子どもたちを支援する日本の二つの団体の皆様による、より広い活動の一環でした。お客様は、愛知県名古屋市を拠点とする日本の社会団体、被災者応援愛知ボランティアセンターを代表して来訪されました。同センターは、2011年の東北地方を襲った大震災の後に正式に活動を整え、災害で被害を受けた地域でのボランティア活動の調整や、親を亡くした子どもたちへの長期的な経済的支援、特に高校卒業までの教育支援のための募金活動などを行ってきました。

もう一つの団体は、久田光政さんが国際的な支援活動を進めているAichi Global Child Relief Centerです。この団体を通じて、久田さんはポーランドに滞在するウクライナ避難民の子どもたちを支援するプロジェクトを立ち上げてこられました。現在、同団体はリヴィウをはじめウクライナ国内でも、戦争によって苦しむ子どもたちを支える活動を行っています。

久田光政さんは、日本の社会活動家であり、長年にわたるボランティア、そして名古屋の元高校教師です。約30年にわたり、日本国内の地震をはじめとする自然災害や、武力紛争によって被害を受けた人々への支援に積極的に取り組んでこられました。2022年半ばからはポーランドを定期的に訪問し、戦争から逃れてきたウクライナの子どもたちを支援されています。特に、家族を失った子ども、孤児となった子ども、故郷を離れざるを得なかった子どもたちに深い関心を寄せておられます。

INTEUROセンターでの今回の出会いは、単なる子ども向けの楽しい午後ではありませんでした。それは、連帯、共感、そして国際協力の美しい例でもありました。一つの会場に、ポーランド語、ウクライナ語、日本語、英語が響き合いましたが、文化の違いを越えて、参加者はすぐに共通の言葉を見つけました。それは、笑顔、思いやり、そして開かれた心という言葉でした。

子どもたちにとっては、遊び、日本文化との出会い、そしてまったく新しい体験の機会となりました。大人にとっては、人道支援には温かく、直接的で、とても人間的な形もあるのだということを思い出させてくれる時間となりました。このような出会いは、移住や戦争の経験をもつ子どもたちが、安全に、楽しく、そして子どもらしく過ごせる場所をつくることの大切さを示しています。

日本からお越しくださった皆様に、心から感謝申し上げます。大きな思いやり、エネルギー、創造力、そしてキェルツェに来てくださったことに深く感謝いたします。今回の出会いは、文化、世代、言語をつなぐ非常に興味深い時間であり、参加者の記憶に長く残るイベントとなりました。
