We Know the Laws, We Respect Traditions – How Children and Youth Prepared for Constitution Day on May 3rd

On the eve of one of the most important Polish national holidays – Constitution Day on May 3rd – two special integration meetings took place on April 19th. Their aim was to introduce young citizens of Ukraine to the history, values, and traditions of the country that has become a welcoming home for them.

The events were organised in two age groups so that the content would match the participants’ age and needs. Thanks to this, both children and youth were able to learn about Polish history and the meaning of civic community in an interesting and accessible way.

The meetings combined education, conversation, and creative activities. It was a time to discover Poland not only through dates and facts, but also through values such as freedom, responsibility, and mutual respect.

Younger Group – A Story About Justice

For the youngest participants, learning about law did not begin with difficult terms, but with an engaging story. Through a tale about an unfair court, children reflected together on why people need rules and what could happen if they did not exist.

The children also learned what the Constitution is – the most important document of the state, defining citizens’ rights and responsibilities.

Older Group – A Conversation About Progress and Responsibility

With the older youth group, the discussion had a more historical and in-depth character. Participants learned that Poland was an exceptionally modern country, because it was here in 1791 that the first constitution in Europe and the second in the world was adopted.

The youth also discussed the balance between human rights and responsibility towards society – values that form the foundation of a modern democratic state.

Creativity in Poland’s Colours

  • heart-shaped bead keychains as a symbol of gratitude and friendship,
  • woven bracelets in white and red colours,
  • learning through play, conversation, and shared activity.

The highlight of both meetings was a colourful creative workshop. Symbolically, the children made crafts in Poland’s national colours – white and red. Beautiful and practical items were created, which will remind them of this shared time together.

These meetings helped participants not only expand their knowledge, but also develop creativity, manual skills, and a sense of community.

📌 Important: Thank you to all children and young people for their active participation, inspiring conversations, and wonderful crafts created during the workshops.
